Take nothing for granted

As part of my public relations course at Loyalist College I'm required to prepare a short case study on the World Wildlife Fund.
Having watched a few of my fellow classmates present their case studies, I've noticed that when people think there will be a prize or reward at the end for listening, they pay closer attention.
With this in mind I contacted the donations assistant at the WWF in regards to obtaining a swag package of some sort.
I also decided to use my new contact to gain an interview with the organizations PR rep for a separate assignment.
In return I got the following response... "Unfortunately, due to resources and time, we do not have anyone available to assist in interviews and questioning for research projects. We are looking at having a staff person available in the future, but at this time nobody is available to do so."
Hmm...
What started out as an attempt to shake down the organization for free swag just turned into a chance to get my foot inside the door.
This got me to thinking. it's important to make a great...not a good... first impression when dealing with organizations for donations or sponsorships, or anything else really...they might just be your future employer.

b.sweet til next time.

p.s. I got the swag and will have a stuff panda to give away to the person who has the correct answer to the big question at the end of my teams presentation.

p.p.s I just received the package with the swag and info for my presentation, and I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. I did get a stuffed panda, but not the one I linked to...instead I received a sort of smallish beanie baby style panda.
Although I'm immensely grateful, I didn't do quite the happy dance I had expected.
